These are the prettiest socks we’ve ever seen! We were surprised to see a familiar logo on a social media post our multi-talented Laboratory Specialist Taru-Ojala Lehtonen posted. Keep reading our interview with Taru below to find out how these beautiful socks were made and what happened to them.
First things first, who are you and what’s your position at CH-Polymers?
“I’m Taru Ojala-Lehtonen, Laboratory Specialist in the Nonwoven & Specialties team. I have been working at CH-Polymers for 9 years, so my 10-year anniversary will be next year.”
How long have you been knitting?
“It would have to be at least 15 years… I started knitting because my father needed new wool socks once, and I’ve kept going since.”
Where did you get the idea for these socks?
“First, my husband Janne wanted some Manchester United socks. So I searched for a template and found one on Pinterest. Then I posted a picture of the ManU socks on facebook, where Director Tuija Andersson commented I have probably made the ManU logo knitting chart myself. I hadn’t, but from that comment I got the idea to try a program that converts pictures to knitting charts. So I figured why not try with the CH-Polymers logo.”
Who will be using these?
“That’s TBD, I don’t know!”
What was the most difficult part of knitting these?
“Making the design centered on both socks.”
Will you be knitting more “fan-products” in the future?
“Next up is a pair of mittens with a Borussia Dortmund theme, then I’m planning to knit some Marimekko socks. So probably yes, I will be knitting fan-products if I get some inspiration.”
Thank you Taru for agreeing to the interview! At CH-Polymers, we pride ourselves on our committed team of multi-talented experts and it’s a joy to see what our colleagues are doing in their free-time as well. Find out more about us here.
PS. We heard a rumor that the socks might have been gifted to Tuija later
